Blossom
From late April to mid-May, roll down your car windows as you drive through Southwest Michigan’s pastel orchards and vineyards and breathe in the flowery fragrances. The region is renowned as one of the best fruit-growing areas in the country. This spirited steed pays tribute to the farmers who have harvested juicy apples, blueberries, cherries, peaches, pears, strawberries and more for over a century.
But equally important, donors Sandie and Ken Kaminski, wanted to celebrate the Blossomtime Festival, Michigan’s oldest (c. 1906) and largest multi-community festival. Each year, 20 communities select a queen and king to compete in the Miss and Mr. Blossomtime Pageant. Then, young and old line the route between St. Joseph and Benton Harbor to watch the spectacular Grand Floral Parade.
When you choose Blossomtime, look at the beautiful carvings as you wait for the band organ to strike up its rousing music. Then, wave like a queen or king as you whirl round and round the Carousel House.
