Kirby
The State of Michigan Horse
Donated by David and Joyce Stewart
Michiganders and tourists alike hold a special place in their hearts for the state of Michigan. Kirby, the State of Michigan horse, embodies the love and joy the Great Lakes state brings to so many people. Kirby's shiny black fur is adorned with Michigan's state flag draped around his neck and a sleek brown saddle on his back.
Bringing Kirby to life are the intricate details: apple blossoms woven into his leather, robins fluttering on his saddle, and Michigan’s outline painted on his saddle blanket. Named after the Kirby family, this figure was created in honor of Floyd and Bertha Kirby by their children.
