Marcie
The white, beautifully bejeweled figure Marcie is the Lead Horse on our Carousel. How do you find the lead horse on a carousel? There are three easy ways. Traditionally, lead horses are bigger and more decorative than the other figures. They frequently are carved as military or war horses. The lead horse is the first figure on the outside row right behind a chariot. Marcie is directly behind Octavia, the rocking peacock chariot.
We named our Lead Horse after the late Marcella “Marcie” Gast Schalon, one of the biggest champions and supporters of building our 2010 Silver Beach Carousel. It is a replica of the lead horse on the original 1910 Silver Beach Carousel crafted by renowned master carver Charles Carmel. Multi-color jewels decorate Marcie’s exquisitely hand-carved chain mail and sparkle under the Carousel lights. The 2016 collector token features the Lead Horse to celebrate Marcie Schalon’s 90th birthday.
