Wind in the Dunes
Wind in the Dunes stands as a testament to history and an ode to the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi. The figure’s sponsor, Perry, wanted this figure to beautifully showcase his heritage and culture. Wind in the Dunes is a painted horse bursting with color, featuring crystal blue reins and a vibrant green skirt. Feathers on the reins appear to flutter in the wind, and it carries a cougar pelt upon its back. A shining green turtle, an animal dear to Perry as the mascot of his company Perry Ballard Incorporated, is intricately carved into the figure. Riding Wind in the Dunes feels like speeding through the breeze.
Perry and Annette Ballard dedicated this figure to their two granddaughters, Katie and Clara. Katie took her first ride on the Carousel atop Wind in the Dunes. After reading the plaque, she exclaimed, “Clara, they did it for us!”
